Beyond its exhibit hall with hands-on product demonstrations from almost 40 exhibitors, Media Technology Expo 2014 will feature a full schedule of free educational seminars. Presented by professional video and audio systems integration firm Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS), MTE 2014 will be held Sept. 30 at Fremont Studios in Seattle and on Oct. 2 at Left Bank Annex in Portland, Ore.
“MTE offers more than just an exhibit hall. It’s an opportunity to learn about production techniques and technologies from industry experts,” said Mark Siegel, president of ABS. “We have a full conference schedule that will provide insight on a number of important topics for video professionals in the Pacific Northwest.”
Steve Strassberg of TC Group will lead an audio seminar at both locations at 11 a.m. “A common audio problem for broadcasters is loudness jumps at transitions of program and commercial material,” he said. “I will discuss loudness issues that still remain in broadcasting and focus on preparing material for different mediums of transmission. From TV to mobile to Web, the audio levels and the way to mix the final product differ and need to be taken into consideration.”
During his session, Joe Cervone, sales manager for Brightline, will discuss broadcast and video conferencing lighting. He said one of the most common problems he sees in broadcast productions is uneven lighting, while video conferencing rooms often rely on general lighting instead of a dedicated lighting system. “My workshop at MTE will cover the methods and acquisition of lighting in the digital age,” he added. “Most importantly, we’ll discuss creative ways to purchase new lighting through available energy management rebates, plant operation cost reductions, and amortization and ROI schedules.”
Other seminars include “Intercoms Moving to IP,” presented by RTS, “Virtual Set / Virtual Augmentation,” presented by Ross Video, and “VariCam and 4K,” presented by Panasonic. Each location will also feature a local “Broadcast Roundtable,” which will address broadcast news technologies and workflows.
MTE 2014 is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in both locations and offers free valet parking for all attendees. Registration includes free food and beverages during the show, but space is limited. For registration, vendor information, and full seminar schedule, visit www.mediatechexpo.com.
